Before I acquired this writer slouch, I was born in Tianjin, China and raised in various cities in Texas. My short stories and essays have appeared in The Atlantic, Virginia Quarterly Review, Guernica, Electric Literature, Lit Hub, and the Texas Observer. I've received awards from MacDowell, the Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference, the Sewanee Writers’ Conference, the Tulsa Artist Fellowship, and Vanderbilt University, where I earned my MFA. I live in the Boston area, where I'm a professor of the practice of fiction at Tufts.
